This is sumaguing cave in Sagada, Mountain Province, Philippines. After visiting
ifugao's rice terraces and falls, it is advisable to go Sagada to visit one of the most if not the most popular cave in the Philippines. The photo above shows the caves' own version of rice terraces, interesting and unique. This march 2009, I will be posting some of the photos taken inside the cave for you to find out why it is considered as one of the in the Philippines or maybe even in the world!
There are 2 methods of planting rice; broadcasting or
direct seeding and transplanting.
In both methods, farmers usually used threshed rice and
scatter them in the previously prepared field.
However in Mt. Province, they plant the panicle (unthreshed rice)
directly in the farm.
I am not sure whether they will allow it to grow as is
or to be transplanted after a few days.
But based on this photo, I think they will transplant it
because of the vacant fields.

How to go to Sagada?
There are many ways to get there, specially if you have your own vehicle. Personally, I think the fastest is via Manila - Bulacan (via North Luzon Expressway) - Pampanga - Tarlac (via SCTEX Lapas exit then Aliaga to escape Cabanatuan traffic or another way is via Sta. Ines exit, then Gerona, Tarlac - Pura - Guimba) - Nueva Ecija - Nueva Viscaya - Ifugao. From Ifugao, you can probably have a sightseeing at
Banaue Rice Terraces or go straight to Bontoc (capital of Mt. Province) then Sagada. Another way is via Manila to
Baguio, then from there it usually takes 4 hours to Sagada.
If I am not mistaken, they call this the king's curtain.
Our tourist guide uses a lamp, to light up our way inside the sumaguing cave. Let there be light!

Sagada also as its own rice terraces! The sumaguing cave is one of the most popular caves in the Philippines and many tourists visit the places despite the difficulty of going there, just enjoy the bumpy roads. The cave is located in the town of Sagada, in Mountain Province where you could enjoy cool whether especially in December to Fubruary. Usually tourists who visit Sagada pass by the Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao and travel via Bontoc, the capital of Mt. Province, where elevations at the highway could reach up to 2000 meters above sea level, you could enjoy nature along the way. However, from Bontoc to Sagada, the road is not so nice but its part of the adventure and so the driver must be very good or familiar to the place. You should go to the Tourism office of Sagada to get a tour guide for you to enter the cave. As you enter the sumaguing cave, the guide lights up a gas lamp for you to gaze at the stalactites and stalagmites formations. As product of nature and probably with the help of human imagination, there are several shapes that are formed in the cave which includes: king's curtain, pregnant woman, dancing hall, nativity, and my favorite the rice terraces.
