Valugan Beach, Batanes, Philippines
"Valugan beach manifests volcanic effusions from Mt. Iraya that is an important geologic formation in the archipelago. The geomorphic resources provided by Valugan beach provides rich information in the land formation of Batanes. The beach consists of smooth boulders of different sizes found along the beach at the easter foot of Mt. Iraya. They are andesites stones and cover the shoreline. These stones are hosts to several shell fish and mollusks that provide food and nutritions to the ivatans specially those from Basco. The stones provide a natural shore protection for the eastern side of Basco and they contribute substantially to the enhancement of the aesthetic value to the seascape and landscape of batan Island." - LGU BascoPosted by Lavern at 10:50 PM 0 comments

Honesty Coffee Shop, Batanes, Philippines
Honesty Coffee Shop is a famous tourist attraction in the Philippines which can be found at Ivana, Batanes Province. The shop is famous not because they serve very good coffee in here but because there are no vendors or a cashier who is looking after the store. They serve not only coffee but many other things like t-shirts, vacul (the one that ivatans put on their head), candy, biscuits, and many more. The prices of each item are listed and you just have to put your payment on a box and get your change if you have any. Sometimes, tourist don't even bother getting their change back and may sometimes even pay more to show their support. Good idea ha? Honesty is the Best Policy!Posted by Lavern at 10:30 PM 0 comments

Coconut "tatus" Crab, Batanes, Philippines

The coconut crabs (Birgus latro) are also known as "tatus" in Batanes, Philippines. They are a popular delicacy in the locality because of its delicious taste. They are being cooked by boiling but sometimes they also use sauce and other seasonings. Unfortunately, it also high in cholesterol so it is not recommended for people with high blood pressure. Sorry...
Coconut crabs are the world's largest land-living arthropods. They have very strong pincers as they have the ability to crack coconuts so that they can feed on the meat (Wikipedia, 2008). Wow, its a good thing our friend warned me before hand not to touch the crabs. The first photo was taken inside a beautiful cave at Itbayat, Batanes while the second photo was taken at one Barangay in Sabtang also in Batanes. Unfortunately I wasn't able to eat one, Sorry for me "sayang"!
